Car Shows & Events

The Adirondack Nationals

For the past 20 years, on the weekend after Labor Day, the quiet Village of Lake George, New York has taken a step back in time. That is when the Adirondack Nationals come to town at Fort William Henry. What had started as a small car show has grown into one the largest events of the year in the Northeast. The show attracts over 3,000 Street Rods, Classics, Antiques, & Muscle Cars.

.....................

This “show” begins well before you arrive at Fort William Henry. It begins as you make your way down Canada Street towards the Fort. One side of the street is lined with people in chairs. The show for them is the parade of old cars that go up and down Canada Street all day. On the other side, the street is lined with Street Rods, Classics, Antiques, & Muscle Cars. Chevy, Dodge, Ford, Plymouth, Chrysler, Mercury, they are all there. You look in the parking lots of the motels, more cars. Not to mention the cars that are on the road with you. Continue past the Fort into the Village and you realize that this is more then just another car show. There are more cars (and people) on the streets here then you would see on the grounds of most car shows.

The show itself is like taking a stroll through automobile history. And, what better place to do that then on the ground of Fort William Henry overlooking beautiful Lake George. The show, which is hosted by the Albany Rods & Kustoms, is well organized. They somehow manage to pack cars and trucks into every inch of available space. While the vehicles are packed in, thanks to the size of Fort William Henry, the spectators are not. You can take your time and enjoy each vehicle.

Cars (and trucks) do not appear to be grouped in any particular way. You can find a 55’ Chevy next to a customized Good Humor Truck. An expensively restored beauty next to one badly in need of an expensive restoration. It makes exploring the grounds even more fun not knowing what is around the next corner. If you have a Fantasy Car, you will find it here.

After you have explored the every inch of the grounds, head over to the vendor area. While the vendor area is not large, there is a wide range of products available.

As the sun sets, it is time to find your spot along Beach Road or the portion of Canada Street that is closed off for the evening cruise. On Friday and Saturday evenings, registered show participants take their cars to the street. The parade of vehicles takes place from 7:00 to 10:00PM. A huge fireworks display over Lake George ends the Saturday night cruise.
